Wayne Rooney Explains Why Tottenham Vs Man Utd Clash Could Be A “Massive” Turning Point For Both Teams

Man Utd legend Wayne Rooney can see the winner between the Red Devils and Tottenham this weekend going on to have a very successful season.

Ruben Amorim’s side have recovered from a poor start, while Spurs are in the complete opposite situation, having struggled to kick on after a positive beginning under new head coach Thomas Frank. The two sides face off on Saturday, and Rooney claims that whoever comes out on top will see it as a “massive” boost:

“It’s a big game, I think, after United [have] obviously [had their] recent run. They look to be back in a decent place, anyway. And so, I think it’s a big game after Tottenham losing to Chelsea.”

“Whoever wins that, [it] could really kick them on. Whoever loses it, [it] could be a tough one to take. So, I think it’s a massive game coming up then.”

Tottenham were shocking against Chelsea

Spurs accrued just 0.05 xG in their 1-0 defeat to their London rivals last weekend, which is the worst figure since Opta started recording the figures back in the 2012/13 campaign.

Thomas Frank’s team essentially created next to zero chances in one of the most hotly contested derbies of the season. The fact that they were at home makes the stat even worse. While they did get back to winning ways with a 4-0 win against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League midweek, the standard of the opposition was much weaker.

Man United will be hoping to continue their unbeaten run

While the Red Devils did drop points against Nottingham Forest last Saturday, the result means that they have not lost since the 3-1 defeat to Brentford in late September.

Considering how things have gone for Amorim during his first year at the helm, that is a significant improvement, and if they can get another positive result at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, it would reinforce the belief that the club are heading in the right direction under his management.
