Man Utd Send ‘Senior Scouts’ To Spurs Game As They Keep An Eye On £40M Rated Shaw Successor

Man Utd are keeping close tabs on Eintracht Frankfurt left-back Nathaniel Brown, according to reports.

TEAMtalk claim that “senior scouts” from the Red Devils were present on Wednesday night as Frankfurt lost 2-0 to Tottenham in the Champions League.

Brown has been linked with several English clubs over the past few months, in addition to the Red Devils, with both Arsenal and Manchester City having also been credited with an interest in the German international.

At the moment, it does appear as if United are the likeliest candidate to make an offer, although it is felt that any official approach will probably happen at the end of the season.

Why are Man Utd interested in the defender?

Tyrell Malacia is currently Luke Shaw’s understudy, but he isn’t expected to remain at Old Trafford if a suitor can be found.

Patrick Dorgu has also been deployed as a left-back in the past, but interim manager Michael Carrick has already identified that the Denmark international is better suited to being an out-and-out winger.

You also have to consider that Shaw isn’t getting any younger. He is 30 years of age, and his contract will expire in the summer of 2027, so a successor is needed.  Brown is only 22, so he could be the club’s first-choice on the left-hand side of defence for many years to come.

Brown won’t be available on the cheap

TEAMtalk have mentioned a price tag of around £40m, but Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krosche has hinted that they may demand close to the £62m that Chelsea spent on Marc Cucurella.

That would be a lot of money for a fullback, but Brown would be a signing for the long term, so Director of Football Jason Wilcox and the recruitment team will have to weigh up whether he is worth the outlay.
