Man Utd are weighing up a potential summer move for Brentford right-back Michael Kayode, according to reports.
TEAMtalk claim that the Red Devils have “stepped up” their pursuit of the Italian, having sent scouts to watch him in recent weeks.
Director of Football Jason Wilcox and the recruitment team are said to be scouring the market for a potential upgrade on the right-hand side of defence.
It is believed that there is a possibility Diogo Dalot could leave Old Trafford at the end of the season, with Kayode being eyed as a possible replacement.
Man Utd are not the only team pursuing the defender
From the looks of things, there will be a long queue for Kayode’s services when the transfer window reopens in the summer.
Rivals Manchester City are known to be keen admirers of the 21-year-old, while Newcastle have also been keeping tabs on his progress.
Kayode will have suitors abroad too, with TEAMtalk reporting that Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have sent representatives to watch some of his games since the New Year.
For his part, the Italian Under 21 international isn’t looking to leave Brentford at this stage, and the Bees may demand a fee in excess of £50m, so it won’t be easy to secure his signature.
Kayode fits the profile
The decision to sign Senne Lammens instead of Emi Martinez last year demonstrated a shift in transfer policy. Wilcox and his team are looking for up-and-coming talent.
Kayode is undoubtedly one of the most talented young right-backs on the market, and he could be a mainstay of United’s defence for the next decade if he does make the switch to Manchester. Of course, with so many other teams interested in the fullback, there are no guarantees at the monent that the Red Devils will come out on top in any transfer battle.
