Man Utd striker Benjamin Sesko has not suffered a serious knee injury, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The 22-year-old limped off during the 2-2 draw against Tottenham at the weekend. There were serious concerns about the nature of the injury as Sesko could not play on despite the fact that the Red Devils had already made their five substitutes. However, Romano says he has it on good authority that the forward is unlikely to be on the treatment table for the long term:
“My information is that internally at Man United, they feel that it’s not going to be a super long injury, so not 6, 7 or 8 months, it’s not that kind of injury. That’s the feeling of Manchester United.”
“It’s going to take some time. Of course, he’s not going to be ready tomorrow morning, but it’s not going to be a super long injury. And that’s obviously important news.”
Sesko avoids an ACL
When it comes to knee injuries, there is always a worry that a player has sustained anterior cruciate ligament damage. That would have ruled out Sesko for the rest of the season.
Lisandro Martinez picked up the same injury last February, and he is just about ready to make his return, so the fact that Sesko has not suffered the same fate will come as a big relief to supporters.
The Man Utd striker has received criticism from pundits
Gary Neville did not mince his words about Sesko’s performances after the 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest, and Alan Shearer was also not particularly complimentary following his cameo against Spurs at the weekend.
2 goals in 12 outings is not a great return for a striker who cost £73.7m, so it will be hoped that, when the Slovenian returns to fitness, he can start to produce some better displays.
